Do Vendor Layoffs Influence Your Job?


News of layoffs at technology vendors is becoming commonplace.

Today alone the reports included Motorola, Seagate, and Oracle, with long-rumored cuts at Microsoft said to be imminent.

Some companies may not make it at all.

I'm wondering about the impact of vendor troubles on IT shops and business users.

People have relationships with their counterparts at the companies from which they buy goods and services. When those folks are forced out, the relationships -- and work in progress -- may be stressed, or even imperiled. Confidence in the vendor wanes.
