Will Tight Budgets Drive Innovation?

This article about the new era of low-cost computing made me think about the opportunities of an economic downturn.

Netbooks and specialized gear would be here no matter what. But the economic crunch puts a premium on cost control that makes the new tech all the more attractive. That should spur smart IT departments to action.

Cheap equipment running open source software may look risky when companies are flush, but not considering them looks risky when budgets are tight.
